Technically, this is a re-read. I originally got this book out of the library a couple of years ago and ended up buying a copy because I knew I'd want to re-read it before I getting on with the rest of the series. It's like a more cynical crime version of Neverwhere. What I especially like is the sense of place - London is a fabulous city unlike any other and this book really makes use of that. So, yes, read it: but have a strong stomach.
